20th Anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act at the House of Lords

On July 22nd the RUS team attended the Disability Business Forms event at the House of Lords to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act. The evening was a wonderful experience and I met loads of Inspirational and amazing people.

I met Dr Alice Maynard – Campbell CBE, Alice amongst many other amazing achievements was Chair of Scope for 6 years.

I also met Bob Niven, who 20 years ago was CEO of the Disability Rights Commission. He is also a retired senior civil servant.  He joined the civil service in 1974 and retired in 1999, Amazing!

Helen Cooke and I. Helen is the Director of my Plus Consulting and is such an inspirational person.

I also met one of Kay’s oldest friends, Phil Friend! He is a fantastic disability rights campaigner!

Baroness Jane Campbell

Lastly, I met, the amazing, Baroness Jane Campbell.  20 Years also she was on the original Disability Rights Commission. She was also Commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission from 2006–2008 and she also served as Chair of the Disability Committee.

The evening was full of incredible memories and it helped to show me how much people can achieve and that disability doesn’t have to be a barrier to any personal goals. I am so grateful I was able to meet such inspiring people and it was an evening I will not forget.
